Texila American University (TAU) has moved to expand its curriculum base from its Providence, East Bank Demerara Campus in Guyana, with the launch of its Bachelor’s (BBA) and Masters’ (MBA) programs in Business Administration.
During a briefing session with the Stabroek Business earlier this week, Texila officials said that the programs were designed to offer corporate and government workers, among others, the opportunity to advance their education, whether in-class or online. Classes for the BBA and MBA programs for the current academic year are already underway, and during the meeting, the Texila team discussed the range of specializations available in both programs. With an eye to equipping its MBA students to take advantage of likely positions in the country’s oil and gas industry in the future, Texila’s subject specializations under its MBA programs include areas such as Oil and Gas Management, Supply Chain, and Logistics Management and Project Management.
With the local private sector has already evinced a strong interest in maximizing such local content opportunities as are available with the advent of a local oil and gas sector, Texila has indicated that it is willing to provide training to both private and public sector functionaries interested in furthering their knowledge and upgrading their qualifications in these areas.
The various other specializations available under the MBA program include Human Resource Management, Finance Management, Marketing Management, Banking, and Insurance Management and Supply Chain and Logistical Management.

TAU says that it seeks to, among other things, “develop joint program initiatives” with various local institutions” as part of its quest to “give back… by offering partial scholarships to government organizations and schools” in Guyana. Texila is also offering both Bachelor’s in Public Health (BPH) and Masters in Public Health (MPH) programmes locally.
The university’s officials say that while the institution has been offering these programs online since 2010, it is now seeking to respond to a demand to have “contact classes” with Guyanese, which can be facilitated through its Providence “state of the art campus.”
The university says that its decision to begin with Business and Public Health courses is linked to what it says is ‘a huge demand in Guyana” for qualifications in those disciplines.
